- The Venus Company continues to set the bar high on sustainability, becoming the first South West stockist of ‘go-to’ alternative to single use plastic bottles -
The Venus Company is proud to announce they will be scrapping plastic water bottles from their menus, replacing them with the new go-to alternative taking the UK by storm, CanO Water.
Committed to protecting the world’s oceans and determined to set the bar high on sustainability, the launch will mean that all of their cafe and takeaway sites across Devon and Cornwall will no longer sell water in plastic bottles.
Venus will be the first official South West stockist of CanO Water; founded by three childhood friends who started the brand after returning from travelling Asia, where they saw the damaging effects plastic is having on the ocean. After spotting a gap in the market, Josh, Ariel and Perry (all under 25) set about creating a product that would help them educate people about the benefits of using aluminum rather than plastic bottles and raise the importance of recycling.
Co-Owner of The Venus Company, Michael Smith is delighted to be continuing to lead the way on sustainability, commenting - “Our commitment to loving the beach and the environment around it has always been one of our greatest passions. Now going into our 22nd year, we are as determined now as we have ever been, to do our bit to keep our oceans clean and protected for generations still to come. We are delighted to be the first South West stockist for CanO Water, which we feel will have a huge impact on minimising waste. CanO Water finally offers water with no plastic in a 100% resealable & recyclable can. So much friendlier to the oceans and our special marine life.”
Co-Founder of CanO Water Ariel comments on the partnership – “We’re so excited to launch CanO Water in the South West and, as a likeminded company with shared values, we are delighted Venus will be our first official Westcountry stockist.”
Explaining more about the product which is leading the way on the battle of the plastic bottle, Ariel continues – “Filtered through the foothills of the Austrian Alps, CanO Water contains vital minerals and electrolytes. Made from aluminum which has the highest recycling rate of any drink on the market, the cans can be recycled and then back on the shelf in as little as 6 weeks. Featuring a smart resealable lid that doesn’t affect the recyclability of the product, cans also provide long shelf life by protecting products inside from light, oxygen and other factors which can affect taste and even product safety. The high level of pH 7.9 in the water, plus high levels of alkaline concentrations, add natural antioxidant proprieties to also keep you looking and feeling fresh.”
Having been twice awarded the Queen’s Award for Sustainable Development; the CanO Water launch is part of the wider Venus vison to help stop the contribution of millions of tons of waste ending up in oceans. With over one million seabirds and 100,000 marine mammals ingesting plastic, last year Venus also scrapped plastic straws from all of their sites.
With 18 billion plastic bottles consumed by the UK every year and only a quarter of these bottles being recycled, the potential environmental impact canning plastic water bottles could have, is huge. Launching on the new Venus spring summer menu from the beginning of April, at sites including Blackpool Sands, Bigbury on Sea and Watergate Bay, CanOWater is available in still and sparkling, at £1.90 for 33cl.
