RENOWNED ENVIRONMENTAL CHAMPION ANNOUNCES PHASE 1 OF ITS EXTENSIVE RENOVATIONS AT BROADSANDS IS A HUGE SUCCESS!
We are proud to announce that Broadsands, our newest beach café has undergone an ambitious renovation project to get it beach ready in time for the summer season.
A multi-award-winning environmental champion providing tasty wholesome food delivered with an ethical philosophy and sustainability is at the heart of what we do. Our mission is to be the greenest café operator. The construction at Broadsands followed strict environmental control using Hoover bag saws and protecting the local flora and fauna. The ambitious make-over includes Millboard decking made with recycled plastic substructure, and the boards themselves are crafted from recycled minerals and use no wood and minimal raw materials, fabricated using renewable energy. Natural wood used on the cladding is English timber and wherever possible, materials have been recycled and re-used. Modern construction marries up to Venus’ ethos and values to protect our planet for future generations including no single-use plastic packaging and plastic-free cling film, rubbish bags, home compostable cups, and lids, as well as home compostable plates.
The design draws on a natural beach theme, extensively using timber, planting, and careful use of glass to break up the existing monolithic design, allowing the building to blend in effortlessly with the beautiful landscape. The build consciously used materials known for their low impact and long-lasting nature, such as home-grown larch. We will also be installing bat and bird boxes as well as hedgehog houses as part of our ongoing biodiversity conservation ethos, to help preserve the wealth of habitats and ecosystems in Devon and beyond.
Broadsands is located in the English Riviera on the seafront and is at the heart of the SW Coast path, between Paignton & Brixham. The gently shelving beach with calm and crystal-clear water is perfect for family days out and year-round water sports. Our Broadsands Venus Café offers all-day, award-winning al-fresco dining where we serve the best, locally-sourced ingredients to create mouth-watering handmade recipes lovingly prepared at our own kitchens.
Kick-start your day with our new Breakfast Burrito (all-day breakfast of egg, bacon, hash brown, and sriracha sauce, served in a hot wrap), or a moreish bacon bap with a generous serving of three rashers of English dry-cured back-bacon. We also offer a variety of vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options including our tasty vegan sausage and tomato bap. Making a welcome return for summer is our ever-popular eggs Benedict and Vegedict - poached eggs on Venus thick sliced sourdough topped with Maille hollandaise sauce, with or without bacon, and our ever-popular plant-based wraps bursting with flavour. For those with a sweet tooth, we make all our own sumptuous cakes and treats. A full range of hot and cold drinks including local Bays Brewery Beer, and wines in a sustainable can, complement our tasty and nourishing menu to eat in or on the go. Very dog friendly, we even have a 2-course canine menu for our four-legged customers, which includes tasty and healthy chews followed by Jude’s lip-smacking dog ice cream.
You will be spoilt for choice as to where to sit to enjoy the Venus eating experience, whether it’s our ever-popular cosy café, with its new entrance triple-glazed external doors and triple layers of insulation in the walls, or our newly remodelled expansive outdoor area, where you can unwind on our stunning decking which seats c.100. Beautifully designed with a Mediterranean beach-style feel, here you can soak up the rays and unwind as you gaze at spectacular views of the Bay and enjoy amazing food dished up with a warm welcome from our friendly team.
