We are blessed to be based in the South West with fabulous local suppliers producing an amazing array of foods grown and harvested from our rich waters and fields.
Local sourcing has always been a key platform for Venus. Not only does it reduce food miles, it provides the customer with the authentic Devon experience. It also has a hugely beneficial impact on the local economy. The heart of Venus food emanates from producing nearly all our own food at our central kitchen at Halwell. We have passion for quality, tasty food and will only put a dish on the menu that we like. As an example, we searched high and low for a British made chicken burger, but all British suppliers use imported meat often from Thailand and Brazil where animal welfare is not renowned and the bird is not well formed. So we buy English chicken from our local butcher and make our own burgers in house - and they are delicious - you can taste the difference.
Where we can’t find South West producers offering the right quality or product, we will always look for one that is closest to home. We will always choose a supplier who shows a commitment to environmentally sound practices.
We only use British (often Devon) meats and dairy products. Currently the following products are from Devon & Cornwall: milk & cheese, Venus organic grass-fed beef burgers, free-range pork sausages, free-range eggs, sourdough bread and floured baps, beers and spirits, ice cream tubs, Plymouth landed fish – sole, pollock, sardines and mackerel. Apple juice and canned Venus Cornish spring water join the list of local beers and spirits.
We hand make all our own cakes, sauces, hummus, falafel, salads, chilis, pasta and sauce, arancini, tofu burgers, chicken Caesar and bang bang chicken to name but a few.
